"Washtenaw RALI" - Venturing into the maze of PACs and fundraising

I recently formed my first Political Action Committee (PAC), called “Washtenaw RALI” – Washtenaw Republicans Advocating for Local Issues. I was surprised how easy it was, the paperwork took less than 10 minutes! I’m still working on the mission statement and platform, but here’s the gist of it:
Promote diversity of thought and opinion in our local government. Encourage citizens seeking positions in local government through financial and moral support. Support ballot initiatives in line with core RALI principles.
Candidates can be from any party but must adhere to the following principles:

Fiscal Responsibility
-Prioritizing “needs” v. “wants”
-Committed to doing more with less
-Transparency
Community First
-Prioritizing communities over conglomerations
-Proactively engages citizens in the government process
-Decision-making guided by individual community’s principles

Policy, not Politics
-Actively engage opposing viewpoints
-Puts policy above party politics
-Not afraid to “buck the system”

Please let me know if you have any suggestions for additions, subtractions, or revisions to any of this. Like I said, it’s a work in progress. At this time, I have filed only in Washtenaw County, meaning that all candidate districts and ballot initiatives must be within the county’s boundaries.

Examples of candidates or issues:
No - WISD Millage
Yes - Kristin Judge (D) County Commissioner

  1. Unless you know you're going over $1000, make sure you click the waiver wire if you haven't already. Other than that, go to this site, and look at the PAC guide if you haven't already. http://www.michigan.gov/sos/0,1607,7-127-1633_8723---,00.html

Good luck. There's a lot that can be done with a PAC, even if it is low budget.

  2. I would be ecstatic to go over $1000, but I definitely checked the box just in case. I've read the PAC guide, I would love to get Independent status, but I still need 24 more people to donate in order to do that. You're welcome to bring that number down to 23!
